A New Direction

I've been an artist for over twenty-five years. Lesser known, I’ve assisted people, women mostly, when they are facing a major transition in their life, perhaps a loss or at the threshold of a life-change; to turn the event into an opportunity for growth and transformation. Recently I realized I could bring the two callings together.

ArtStay combines Casale di Terra, a beautiful, nurturing and private sanctuary that we built on New Zealand’s Waiheke Island, with the focus on a commissioned work of art to mark the passage.

In time of change, it can be healing and inspiring to travel to a new and tranquil place, a place to reflect and recharge. With ArtStay, the focus is on a work of art that celebrates the way forward. In addition to my wall-mounted paintings, I've started working on three-panel hinged paintings inspired by the sacred altarpieces of medieval Europe, a work that can sit on a tabletop or as an altarpiece.  When in Italy on an art residency in Puglia, I would bicycle past the small shrines in the countryside seeing triptychs often placed on the altars which has since inspired this new medium for me.  At present, I'm working on such a commission to mark a client's major life and career shift.  There will be an unveiling and reception for this artwork, inviting her close friends and family here in the studio.

With the ArtStay experience the client comes as my guest to stay a week in the Casale guesthouse as we collaborate on the commission. The journey will likely entail their continued travels throughout other parts of New Zealand, if they choose.  i offer the option for a return overnight here for one night.

Waiheke's ancient name was Te Motu-arai-roa, ‘the great sheltering island’, and indeed it is – a sacred and exquisitely beautiful place that restores the soul.
We have some lovely photographs of the island on the ArtStay website. Have a look and use the hand signs to scroll through the site.

If you have a friend or family for whom this might be perfect, please pass on the link below.
