The Twelve

  The Twelve
10"x12"

I've worked on this center canvas for just over a year.  Looking at this image now (as of last week this painting found it's perfect home) it amazes me to think 12 months to complete what was a small scrap piece of canvas discarded on the studio floor from a larger work which has since sold.
I mark each month of it's making with white dots which also infers to the 12 fisherman of the Sea.

Exploring how to best display the central theme, I support the work against a gray-slate oil colored background then drew with thick charcoal, a line around the painting.
... by varnishing several layers the liquid redistributed the charcoal particles and sealed the surface,  creating an uneven and beautiful band around the art piece.

The subtlety perfect,
 framing the blues to jump and the white dots to dance;
 an icon of textured seas and the feel of ocean *rhapsody.
